Gluten-free Pretzels

Back in the old days people would, at a Dutch birthday party, put these kind of pretzel, which were randomly coated with salt sprinkles, sticks on the table to nibble on. Later on, another variant made it to the table and this version had peanut butter inside which strangely was okay to eat as well. I guess the other version was so plain that it was fun to have some kind of flavour inside the stick for a change… However the Dutch pretzels stick birthday era has been long gone. You hardly see them and if you do it is probably at a birthday party of someone who is very old. So I didn’t eat these kind of pretzels for a very long time but apparently pretzels are an easy product to create gluten-free. Since I have been diagnosed, I occasionally eat a small bag of pretzels when I am in the mood for something savoury. It is also one of the things that’s easy to get at almost every kind of supermarket across different countries. As I said it’s a very plain taste but I like to snack on them. They also come in handy to take with me because the ones I usually buy are pocket size. They taste pretty salty, a bit greasy and it is also a bit dry but I am okay with that. The size is just the right amount for a quick snack for me.

The brand that I buy in the Netherlands is called Schar Salinis gluten-free. They sell them at several different supermarket chains:

Jumbo

AH

Amazon

I have also tried several others in different countries and to me they all taste pretty similar. The American variant that I’ve had comes in a big bag and these pretzels are extremely crunchy! So crunchy that I hurt myself with one stucking right up my palate and leaving a little sore area in my mouth.

The culprits! Sharp and crunchy pretzels bought at the Wholefoods store in Los Angeles!

Safety: all the pretzels mentioned here contain a certified gluten-free logo.
